Day 01: Cusco - Tinqui Village - Upis Hot Springs

We will leave Cusco very early in the morning to the village of Tinqui in our private transportation. On the way we will see the impressive Vilcanota mountain range, as well as several traditional Andean villages and take some time to take some pictures.

When we are in Tinqui (where our trek will begin) while our team will organize all the group’s camping equipment and packs on the horses. We will then begin our hike through the farming communities and enjoy the breathtaking mountains that surround the Peruvian Andes.

Our hike will last 3 hours and then we will have an hour stop for lunch. Then we continue for another 2 hours until we reach Upis (4,100 masl / 13,448 ft), in this beautiful place we will have the opportunity to relax in some local hot springs before dinner, it is in this place where we will camp under the stars.

Day 02: Upis - Arapa Pass - Pucacocha Lake

We will begin our second day of trekking, after a great breakfast to recharge our batteries. We will walk until we reach the Arapa Pass (4,850 masl = 15,908 feet). From there we will enjoy the contrast between the dry desert like hills and the impressive views of the snow-capped mountains.

Ausangate and Pucacocha. This place has three beautiful lagoons with shades of red, green and turquoise (Pucacocha, Hatun Pucacocha and Qomercocha). We will continue our trek until we reach our second campsite near the Ausangate Glacier.

Day 3. Puca cocha - Warmisaya pass - Surine cocha

Today is a difficult day, You start with Puca Cocha pass (5051m-16571.52feet), the very colorful mountains that surround you. As well as you have a spectacular view of Mount Ausangate and colorful glacier lakes then you will enter into the Red Mountain valley, an intact landscape with vivid colors all around, and llamas eating grass right close to you. Then you will have lunch at our campsite After our meal, we need to climb the second pass called Warmi Saya pass(4950m-16240.16feet) from where you see this amazing Rainbow Mountain in the distance, From this place, you go downhill until we reach our campsite surina cocha. If the weather is good, we will go to the Rainbow Mountain for the sunset.

Day 04: Surine Cocha - Rainbow Mountain - Cusco

Finally we arrive to the fourth and last day of our trip through the Peruvian Andes, our day will start with a great breakfast, then we will hike gradually for 2 hours until we reach the famous Rainbow Mountain (5,020 masl / 16,469 ft).

Your guide will explain what makes these mountains unique, you will also have time to take the best pictures, you can also visit the red valley if you still have energy (optional) then we will continue hiking until we reach the village of Quesiuno.

After 3 hours of hiking we will have our lunch. Finally our private van will be waiting to pick us up. After 4 hours we will arrive to Cusco, after this rewarding and once in a lifetime experience, we will drop you off at your hotel in Cusco. We will arrive around 5:00 pm approximately.

Important info

  • Accommodation: 3 nights of camping in private tents with foam mattresses.
  • Meals: 4x Breakfast, 3x Lunch, 3x Snack, 3x Dinner. Vegetarian or vegan options available; please inform us in advance.
  • Transportation: Private transport from Cusco to Tinki and back. Return from Tinqui to Cusco.
  • Local Guides & Team: English/Spanish speaking professional guide with a minimum of 3 years of guiding experience. Personal porters to carry camping gear and equipment. All guides carry first aid kits and extra oxygen bottles for emergencies.
  • Meals: Dinner on the first day.
  • Equipment: Sleeping bags ($25.00 per person, available for rent). Trekking poles ($15.00 per person, available for rent).
  • Optional Activities: Additional hot springs in Pacchanta ($5.00 per person). Visit to local markets in Tinqui.
  • Other Costs: Tips for guide (customary but voluntary), national or international flights, travel insurance. Other activities not mentioned in this itinerary.
  • Book early: Permits for this trek are limited; it’s advisable to book at least 3 months in advance.
  • Acclimatize: Spend a few days in Cusco to adjust to the altitude before starting the trek.
  • Gear up: Bring suitable hiking boots, layers for changing weather, and waterproof gear.
  • Essentials: Pack insect repellent, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a personal first aid kit.
  • Optional porter service: Hire a porter to carry your belongings for comfort during the trek.
