Day 1: Cusco – KM 104 – Aguas Calientes

Your journey begins with a scenic train ride from Cusco to KM 104. Upon arrival, meet your expert guide and embark on the trek. The first segment takes you through lush cloud forests and ancient Inca ruins, including Wiñay Wayna, where you will have your first encounter with the sophisticated Inca stonework. As you ascend, learn about the history and significance of each site. Continue along the trail, crossing bridges and staircases, until you reach the Temple of the Sun (Intipunku), also known as the Sun Gate. This is the first major viewpoint of Machu Picchu, providing breathtaking vistas of the archaeological site below. After a short rest, continue downhill through the forest to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening. Distance covered: 12 km (7.5 miles).

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusc

Begin your day with an early breakfast at your hotel before taking a bus up to Machu Picchu to catch the sunrise. Witness the ancient city bathed in golden morning light as you approach the entrance. Your guided tour begins with an exploration of the main plazas and temples, including the Temple of the Sun, the Room of the Three Windows, and the Intihuatana Stone—an ancient astronomical clock used by the Incas. As you walk through the terraces and agricultural sectors, your guide will share insights into the culture and history of this incredible site. After the guided tour, you’ll have free time to explore Machu Picchu at your own pace, perhaps hiking to Huayna Picchu for panoramic views (additional cost and reservation required). In the afternoon, return to Aguas Calientes for lunch before catching the train back to Cusco. Upon arrival, enjoy the transfer back to your hotel. Distance covered: 5 km (3.1 miles).
