Challancancha – Soroypampa

In the morning we will pick you up at your hotel very early, then travel on for approximately two and a half hours towards the town of Mollepata where we will stop for about an hour to have breakfast.

There we will catch our private transport on to Challacancha where we will begin trekking. We will hike for about 3 hours until we arrive to Soraypampa (3800m) where we will have lunch and enjoy magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains Humantay (4120m / 13500ft and Salkantay (6271m / 20575ft).

After lunch, we will have an optional hike to Lake Humantay, which is one hour further uphill from Soraypampa (first campsite).

Day 2. Soraypampa - Colpapampa

Following a nutritional breakfast we will begin our trek towards the highest path for today; Salkantay Pass (4600m), which will take approximately 4 hours. This trail is found between the two snow-capped peaks called Salkantay and Humantay.

We will have two rest stops, at Salkantaypampa and Suyrocqocha, with the best views of both mountains once we arrive at the pass (chances of snow depends on the weather).

After enjoying this place we will continue on, making our way downhill this time for approximately 2 hours towards Huayracmachay, where we will have lunch. We will then descend through cloudy woodlands until arriving to our second campsite called Colpapampa.

Day 3. Colpapampa - Hidroelectrica - Aguas Calientes town

After breakfast at 6.30 am, we will begin our hike, observing on this day a variety of flora and fauna such as orchids and tropical fruits of the region, parakeets, parrots, etc.. We will pass by small streams and waterfalls, walking for approximately five hours, until we reach our lunch stop; Playa Sahuayaco.
From there we will take our transportation to the Hydroelectric Plant, from where we will walk along the train tracks for approximately two and a half hours until we reach the town of Aguas Calientes (lodging and dinner are included).

Day 4. Aguas Calientes - km104 Machupicchu - Aguas Calientes town

This day we start with breakfast at our hostel at 5: 30am and then start our hike for about 1 hour 30 minutes following the river until we reach our start of the hike called chachabamba KM 104 where we register to start the original inka trail where we can appreciate the flora and fauna and visit the archaeological site of Chachabamba ascent and then make a walk of about 3 hours to reach the archaeological site of Wiñayhuayna of impressive Inca architecture and this place is the best archaeological site of the entire Inka trail. then we will do an exploration with our guide and then we will have lunch enjoying the mountains and the Urubamba valley and then we will start walking again for 1 hour 30 minutes more until we arrive to the sun gate where we will have the best panoramic views of machupicchu and then we will make a descent for 1 hour to the citadel of machu picchu and take the picture of the postcard (but we can not visit or do the exploration of machupicchu because the government rules do not allow it) we will do this exploration or visit the next day, Then we will hike downhill for 1 hour and 30 minutes until we arrive to the town of Aguas Calientes to stay in the hostel.

Day 5. Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco

We start very early at 5:00am we will take the bus up for 30 minutes to get to Machu Picchu and have our exploration with our guide in the circuit provided by the government for 2 hour 30 minutes to 3 hours in Machu Picchu.
After enjoying Machu Picchu we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes to then board our train to Ollantaytambo, it takes 1.45 hours by train to Ollantaytambo where our transportation will be waiting for you to take you back to Cusco. As for the train, we will provide you with the tourist class train, the train departure times can be between 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. depends on the availability of spaces.

  • Accommodation: 4 nights of camping in private tents with foam mattresses.
  • Meals: 5x Breakfast, 4x Lunch, 4x Snack, 4x Dinner. Vegetarian or vegan options are available; please inform us in advance.
  • Transportation: Private transport from Cusco to Soraypampa and back. Train from Aguas Calientes to Cusco. Bus ride from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu.
  • Local Guides & Team: English/Spanish speaking professional guide with a minimum of 3 years of guiding experience. Personal porters to carry camping gear and equipment. All guides carry first aid kits and extra oxygen bottles for emergencies.
  • Meals: Dinner on the last night in Aguas Calientes.
  • Equipment: Sleeping bags ($25.00 per person, available for rent). Trekking poles ($15.00 per person, available for rent).
  • Optional Activities: Entrance to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain ($60.00 per person, check availability in advance). Shuttle bus down from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes ($12.00 per person).
  • Other Costs: Tips for guide (customary but voluntary), national or international flights, travel insurance. Other activities not mentioned in this itinerary.
  • Book early: Limited permits are available; booking at least 3 months in advance is recommended.
  • Acclimatize: Spend a few days in Cusco to adjust to the altitude before starting the trek.
  • Gear up: Bring suitable hiking boots, layers for changing weather, and waterproof gear.
  • Essentials: Pack insect repellent, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a personal first aid kit.
  • Optional porter service: Hire a porter to carry your belongings for comfort during the trek.
