 OVERVIEW

The Cachicata Trail to Machu Picchu offers an off-the-beaten-path adventure. Cachicata Trail is a fantastic combination of nature, adventure, and history, albeit it is not as well-known as the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu or the Inca Trail.

The Cachicata climb leads you to the historic Inca stone quarries, which were important during the Inca civilisation. You will, nevertheless, be able to observe the life of the pristine Andean community that call this distant location home.

The trip is peppered with Andean farms for the most part. You will be walking through a scenic area where you will be able to have a closer look at various snow-capped peaks. You will also have the opportunity to see a beautiful tall waterfall here.

Ollantaytambo was originally the Incas’ administrative capital in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The Incas advanced quickly, particularly under Pachacutec’s leadership. This includes the construction of numerous aqueducts and castles.

Many significant buildings were constructed in Ollantaytambo, and the majority of stonework was completed at Cachicata Quarry. Many perfectly cut pink stones and exquisite marbles may still be seen scattered in dismay today. Upon the conquest by the Spanish, all projects were halted, and the Incas abandoned the stone quarry.

You’ll be following in the footsteps of the Incas on the same way they used to bring stones from the quarry to Ollantaytambo on the Cachicata Trail.

HIGHLIGHT DESTINATION

Itinerary

Day 1. Cusco – Huarocondo – Pachar – Corimarca

We will take you up from your Cusco hotel at 6:00 a.m. Then we’ll go on a road trip to Pachar, which is a town in India. It’s in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

From here, we’ll journey to Huaroncondor’s trailhead. We’ll pick our muleteer and horses here.

We’ll pack our possessions and camping gear in preparation for the four-day Cachicata Trail to Machu Picchu.

Our first activity will be a trek through the town’s agricultural terraces. After that, we’ll begin our journey to Raphcca. A small village situated at a height of 2900 meters above sea level. We’ll take a break here for lunch.

Day 2. Corimarca – Queñacancha

We’ll continue our journey through the valley after lunch. We’ll walk past a number of canals and agricultural terraces.

Many indigenous peoples live in this area. Traditions and rituals are still observed. They continue to communicate in Quechua, in fact.

On the following leg of the journey, things get a little more intriguing. We’ll hike up a rocky track that leads to a highland waterfall. This place is extremely gorgeous. We’ll take a little break to let your body and mind to rest.

We’ll hike from here to Corimarca, an Incan archaeological site. In the camping area, we will spend the night.

Day 3. Queñacancha – Cachicata – Aguas Calientes

A healthy breakfast will be served. We’ll stroll down the hill to an Inca Channel after breakfast. Lake Maracucha feeds this watercourse. We’ll climb to Intihuatana, an old Incan temple, after taking quality time here.

This is situated on the crest of the Apu Alambre mountain. The vista from this vantage point is otherworldly.

People here used to oversee the Inca quarries and hold ceremonies at Intipunku to show their thanks to the natural world.

We’ll keep walking downhill to Choquetacarpo. It’s a relic of the past. Architects who worked at the quarry lived in this house. We’ll take a break here for lunch.

We’ll travel to Cachicata, the Incas’ greatest quarry, after lunch. You’ll find some pink rhyolite blocks strewn about in this area. These stone blocks are evidence of a massive Incan structure that never built. Our tour guide will take you on a thorough tour of the area.

We’ll then make our way to the train station in Ollantaytambo. We’ll take the train to Aguas Calientes from here.

We will put you up in a basic ensuite hotel room for the night after you arrive in Aguas Calientes.

Day 4. Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

We will depart from Aguas Calientes town early in the morning. We’ll catch a bus to Machu Picchu after breakfast. As you approach the fortress, the clouds begin to disperse. We’ll take you on a two-and-a-half-hour tour of the citadel.

Please inform our guide if you have booked a trek to Huyana Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain. They will aid you in locating the appropriate mountain’s entrance.

You can also take a walk to the Sun Gate. The Sun Gate provides a unique vista of Machu Picchu. Only Inca Trail hikers get to experience this view.

We’ll meet at the railway station after the tour. From here, you’ll take the train back to Ollantaytambo. At the train station, our representative will greet you. We will then return you to your Cusco hotel.
