Itinerary
Day 1. Cusco – Pisaq - urubamba - Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
Your Sacred Valley Machu Picchu Tour begins with an early morning start at 7 AM. We will pick you up in our private transport from your hotel in Cusco. As the sun rises over the Andean peaks, you will set off on a scenic drive towards Pisac. Pisac, located at an altitude of 2,972 meters (9,751 feet), is our first stop.
In Pisac, you will explore impressive Inca sites and archaeological wonders. You’ll marvel at the intricate stonework and the strategically built terraces that demonstrate the advanced engineering skills of the Incas.
Post Pisac, the tour will continue towards Urubamba. The town is nestled in the Sacred Valley at an elevation of 2,871 meters (9,419 feet). Here, you will enjoy a delicious lunch while taking in the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
After lunch, we will proceed to Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo, situated at 2,792 meters (9,160 feet), is home to some of the best-preserved Inca architecture. You will have time to explore the town, the archaeological sites, and the imposing Sun Temple on a guided tour.
Finally, around 4 PM, you will board a train to Aguas Calientes. The train ride, often a highlight of the day tour, provides stunning views of the Urubamba River and the Andean landscape.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, situated at 2,040 meters (6,690 feet), you will check into your hotel. You have the liberty to spend the evening at your discretion in the tranquil ambiance of Aguas Calientes.
You may elect to immerse yourself in the exploration of this enchanting town. Alternatively, you can opt for rest, conserving your energy for the forthcoming tour of Machu Picchu on the subsequent day.
Day 2. Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Early in the morning, we will take the shuttle bus up to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas“. This complex is considered a jewel of the Inca architecture. It is a complete town with different quarters, squares, alleys, buildings, astronomical observatories and terraces. We will learn everything about the Inca civilization and interesting facts about this sacred place. After a guided tour, we will have enough time to explore this magical place by ourselves.
For those who have previously selected to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, you will do so at your designated time (1st group: 6am to 8am, 2nd group: 9am to 11am).
Later, we will catch the shuttle bus down to the village of Aguas Calientes, and have lunch at a local restaurant. We will take our train back to Ollantaytambo, where our transfer staff will pick us up and take us back to our hotel in Cusco.
